The development of research in Neuroscience

On Thursday 27 February 2020, at 15:00-17: 30 pm, at the Amphitheater of the School of Sciences of the University of Thessaly, found in Lamia, a thematic seminar was held, titled “The development of research in Neuroscience”. The lectures were organized in collaboration with the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems, Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications (liaison Assistant Professor Nikolaos Zygouris), with researchers from the University of Harvard and the University of Patras. The event was supported by the Medical Association of Fthiotida.

The event started with a warm reception to all the attendants by the Assistant Professor Athanasios Kakarountas, Director of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory, representing the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics. Assistant Professor Nikolaos Zygouris, representing the Department of Information and Communication followed, also welcomed the attendees and the welcome session closed with Associate Professor Ioannis Anagnostopoulos, President of the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics.

Afterward, Emeritus Professor George Kostopoulos, School of Medicine, University of Patras, gave a speech titled “Neurosciences: Why the need to inform citizens about the development in brain Research is urgent”, presenting a review of the growth of the field and their Applications.

Dr. Vassilios Kokkinos, Instructor, Dept. of Neurosurgery, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA, Epilepsy Clinical Scientist, Dept of Neurosurgery, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, USA, delivered a speech titled “Clinical Neurosciences: Applications of Neuroscience in Brain Disorders”, emphasizing on the clinical solutions that have been applied and continue until this day to treat epilepsy.

At the end of the event, the attendees had the opportunity to ask the speakers questions that concerned them on the topic.
