One of the Flagship national projects in Precision Medicine in Greece has been successfully completed, marking an important milestone for our academic and research community.
The project “Bridging large-scale omics, genetic, and medical data for the widespread application of Precision Medicine in Greece” (budget: €2,392,436.05) has been successfully concluded. It focused on interconnecting and exploiting heterogeneous biomedical data to strengthen Precision Medicine in Greece and to support personalized approaches to diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic management of patients.
A key outcome of the project is the development of the intelligent Electronic Health Record (intEHR), an innovative software platform that integrates clinical and genetic data, pharmacogenomic support, Polygenic Risk Scores (PRS), and advanced clinical decision-support mechanisms, in alignment with the European Health Data Space (EHDS) framework. The intEHR system also incorporates a semi-automatic engine for the creation and management of patient registries, enhancing the ability to support research and clinical practice in real-world settings.
The project was implemented by four academic and research institutions: the University of Thessaly, the “Alexander Fleming” Research Center for Biomedical Sciences, the University of Patras, and the Hellenic Pasteur Institute. The project coordinator is Professor Pantelis Bagos, while the scientific director is Dr. Artemis Hatzigeorgiou, whose leadership was instrumental in achieving the project’s objectives.
